The movie begins with Ramya Balachandran (Meera Jasmine) studying for her entrance exams. When she starts getting the first hint of the exam questions, she is not confident that she can answer them at all. Her husband Jayarajan Mampilly's (Prithviraj) friend decides to help her out by coaching her without telling Jayarajan about it until the final day so he will be able to surprise her. Ramya puts up a brave front but under pressure, cracks under pressure and fails the test which makes Jayarajan angry at his friend who never told him about Ramya's problems beforehand. The climax of the story is when Jayarajan and Ramya face their final exam. They both sit for the exam facing each other. The four examinees sitting in front of them are Jayarajan, Ramya, their friend and the examiner. When their names are called out, they both fail to answer either question at all because neither of them know what they were even studying for. The movie ends with Ramya deciding that she will take the 'casual employment' exam for a police constable's post, which Jayarajan supports.The music was penned by Bijibal. Lyrics were written by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri and Vinayak Sasikumar. The soundtrack album consists of 6 tracks. Tulsi Sharma of The Times of India gave the film a rating of 2 out of 5 stars at the box office, stating "On the whole, though, "Bookie" is an engaging watch with its story woven around relationships and logical happenings. A good script, some peppy numbers and a strong supporting cast are the saving graces of this movie." Paresh C Palicha of Rediff.com gave the film a rating of 2 out of 5 stars at the box office, stating "Double Barrel is an example of how an inherently weak script can be salvaged by including enough humour lines in it. It's not really great cinema but you can watch it if you're in no serious mood." The film was remade into Kannada as "Double Barrel" starring Duniya Vijay and Malavika Avinash which released on 6 February 2015.
